Sexual Assault Survivors
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program
IHA is working with the Office of Attorney General Lisa Madigan (OAG) to increase the number of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) and to encourage their practice to the full extent of their training.
SANE Scorecard
IHA has been working with the office of Attorney General Lisa Madigan to reach two goals by Fall 2012: double the number of practicing sexual assault nurse examiners (SANES) to 150 and establish a hospital-based SANE program in each of the state's 11 EMS regions. A new SANE Scorecard will track progress toward these goals. Madigan's office offers the SANE classroom training to nurses, physicians and physician assistants, free of charge, at various locations throughout the state. Clinical training can be completed in the emergency department or OB/GYN office or clinic. Many hospitals are sending nurses to the classroom training and they are encouraged to continue to do so. A priority now is to assist those nurses with arranging and completing the clinical component of their training. IHA is working to increase the number of clinical training sites.

Follow-up Care Vouchers - An Overview
Over 2 years ago, IHA participated in discussions with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Health, ISMS, and other stakeholders to develop a system whereby uninsured sexual assault survivors can receive follow-up care that is paid for by the state. Many hospitals already participate in this program by generating online vouchers at the time of the emergency department visit for survivors to take to providers of follow-up care.
