A.J. Wilhelmi to Lead IHA's Advocacy, Government Relations
Naperville, IL-The Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) has announced State Senator A.J. Wilhelmi will join IHA as senior vice president of government relations within the next several weeks. Wilhelmi will lead the Association's advocacy efforts with legislators and elected officials on the state level on critical issues affecting hospitals and health care, including Medicaid funding and property taxes. Wilhelmi will be resigning from the Senate and Murer Consultants upon joining IHA.
Wilhelmi served as State Senator of the 43rd District (Joliet area) since 2005. He established a good balance in working with business, labor and officials of both parties to give the people of his district the right impetus for job growth and sustained economic development. In the Illinois Senate, Wilhelmi earned top positions, including Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Vice-Chair of the Agriculture and Conservation Committee.
"A.J. Wilhelmi's extensive experience in government and the private sector will be invaluable as he leads the Illinois Hospital Association's efforts to ensure that our member hospitals and health systems continue to provide high quality health care services to the people of Illinois," said IHA President & CEO Maryjane Wurth. "He is known for building consensus and is well respected on both sides of the aisle."
Wilhelmi is a vice president at Murer Consultants, Inc., a legal-based health care consulting firm with a national clientele of hospitals, health systems and physician practices. Wilhelmi is also a partner at Murer, Brick & Wilhelmi, LLC, which was launched a few years ago by Murer Consultants to focus on real estate, corporate law, and strategic business planning.
A graduate of Loyola University Chicago, Wilhelmi received his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He has been in law practice since 1993. Born and raised in Joliet, Wilhelmi continues to live there with his wife Michelle and three children.
