Record Retention Reference

We are pleased to announce the publication of the Record Retention Reference 2008 Edition - available in electronic version.

Since 1999, the Record Retention Reference has been a valuable resource for the state and federal laws pertaining to the retention of records commonly generated by hospitals, including those related to Accounting, Administration, Clinical, Human Resources, Laboratory, Nursing and more. The last edition was dated 2003. Those who own the 2003 edition have received a memo and brochure under separate cover.

Because the new federal rules on the discovery of electronic documents are a major addition to the law governing health information, the Record Retention Reference 2008 Edition includes a section on developing policies for the preservation and destruction of electronic records and an inventory template that can be customized to help keep track of documents.

The Record Retention Reference 2008 Edition includes an updated introduction, HIPAA retention requirements and related documentation, updated list of records having state and federal retention requirements, revised appendix of pertinent statutory and regulatory text, and a complete index.

The electronic version includes an interactive worksheet as well as bookmarks for quick navigation to every state and federal law cited.
