Urge Your U.S. Rep. to Cosponsor Bill to Expand 340B Program

H.R. 2606 - 340B Program and Integrity Act of 2007
Illinois Congress Bobby Rush (D-1), Reps. Joann Emerson (R-MO) and Bart Stupak (D-MI) introduced The 340B Program and integrity Act of 2007 (H.R. 2606) on June 7, 2006 (click here). This bill was crafted to help public and non-profit hospitals serving a high proportion of low-income and uninsured patients cope with rising pharmaceutical costs, enabling them to better serve their patients and communities.

Under the current 340B program, drug manufacturers participating in the Medicaid program are required to sell outpatient drugs at discounted prices to public and non-profit hospitals that serve a large proportion of low-income and uninsured patients. H.R. 2606 would extend the program to drugs associated with inpatient services. In addition it would extend program eligibility to children's hospitals, critical access hospitals (CAHs), sole community hospitals, rural referral centers, Medicare-dependent hospitals and other community health care facilities.

IHA strongly supports H.R. 2606 and urges hospitals to ask their U.S. Representative to co-sponsor this important legislation to help safety net and struggling rural facilities.
