February 22, 2010 White House Health Reform ProposalOn Monday, February 22, President Obama and the White House released a new health care reform plan. The $950 billion proposal is primarily based on the Senate passed health reform bill (HR3590). The President's plan will be used as a discussion starting point for this week’s health care summit (February 25). Among other measures, the plan would provide health insurance coverage to an additional 31 million Americans; strengthen federal oversight of health insurance companies, including rate hikes; create new tax credits to offset the cost of insurance premiums; tax high-cost “Cadillac” health plans; and close the “doughnut hole” coverage gap in seniors’ prescription drug plan.
