Planning Ahead Translated to Spanish - Planeando su Futuro

In order to increase a broader public understanding of end-of-life issues, the IHA Legal Department has had the brochure entitled Planning Ahead: How to Make Future Health Care Decisions Now translated into Spanish. The primary purpose of the brochure, Planeando su Futuro, is to help IHA member hospitals inform their Spanish-speaking patients and communities about the types of advance directives available in Illinois, a requirement of federal law.

Please distribute the enclosed (click here) brochure to your Admitting and Nursing Departments. You may also wish to make copies of the brochure available to other departments, including pastoral care, ethics, social work, home health and hospice.

Electronic copies may be emailed to you by emailing your request to Suzy McGary at smcgary@ihastaff.org. Copies of the English version can be downloaded by clicking here.

The Legal Department hopes you find Planeando su Futuro helpful in educating your Spanish-speaking patients and communities on Illinois advance directives. Please encourage your staff to direct legal questions on Illinois advance directives to IHA staff attorney Kathleen Pankau (630) 276-5598 or kpankau@ihastaff.org.
