Grant Funds for 5 Million Lives Campaign

The Illinois Hospital Association is pleased to share with you information on grant funds availability for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 5 Million Lives Campaign. Hospitals that have not already enrolled in the campaign are encouraged to review the grant application for assistance in participating in the 5 Million Lives Campaign.

The grants are made possible by Cardinal Health Foundation’s Challenge Grants and will be overseen by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).  The foundation is offering up to $500,000 in grant funds to help increase the number of rural and public hospitals participating in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) 5 Million Lives Campaign.  This program will be administered with the assistance of the NRHA and the National Association of Public Hospitals (NAPH).  Both groups will oversee the application process and provide an initial review of grant applications.  Hospitals will be eligible to receive up to $15,000 each to help defray costs associated with implementing Campaign Initiatives aimed at protecting patients from five million incidents of medical harm over two years (December 2006-December 2008).

The Request for Proposal is available by clicking here. The deadline for proposals is August 30, 2007 to the National Rural Health Association. Applications may be mailed or faxed to Amy Elizondo, MPH, Vice President, National Rural Health Association, 1600 Prince Street, Suite 100, Alexandria, VA 22314; Phone 703-519-7910, Fax 703-519-3865 or elizondo@NRHArural.org.
