Illinois Adverse Health Care Event Reporting Law

The Illinois Department of Public Health has published final rules in the November 13, 2009 Illinois Register. The rules set up a reporting system for adverse health care events for hospitals and ambulatory surgical treatment centers.

Once the final rules are adopted, the law requires IDPH to conduct a testing period of at least six months, and, following the testing period, to collect four calendar quarters of data prior to the publication of an annual report on adverse events.
