Governor's Economic Development Sub-Cabinet Initiative

Announced at the Illinois Center for Nursing meeting in October 2007. Connecting public and private stakeholders to reduce nursing shortages in Illinois through a regional approach that aligns state and regional resources to address major cause of shortages at each stage of the workforce development "pipeline." Regional pilots underway with Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) spearheading Northeast Region and Connect SI facilitating efforts for Southern Region. Pilots involve service, government, and academic representatives working together on supply concerns and is intended to align state and regional resources for addressing the nursing shortage. The Illinois Center for Nursing manages and coordinates efforts of 15 state agencies and regional partners, including university and community colleges, hospitals, workforce boards, long-term care and ambulatory care employers. Once completed, the same approach will be used to apply similar regional sector-based approach to other health care occupations.
