IHA - Illinois Hospital Association

  • IHA is a non-profit voluntary organization whose objective is health care advocacy.
  • IHA and its members are committed to making certain that the goal of highest quality patient care is never lost in the wake of human resource shortage and government restraints to produce more but spend less.

IHA - CoV - Illinois Hospital Association - Constituency on Volunteers

  • CoV is one of the constituency sections of IHA.
  • CoV represents auxilians, in-service volunteers, directors of volunteer services, and other hospital staff who work with volunteer programs of IHA member institutions.
  • CoV emphasizes educational programs and resources to motivate and guide auxilians, volunteers, and hospital staff in their role as community advocates for IHA member institutions.
  • CoV offers three workshops a year aimed at assisting auxilians/volunteers in expanding their knowledge about the health care field and the role of the auxiliary. All auxilians, volunteers, and directors of volunteer services of IHA member hospitals are welcome to participate in these workshops.
  • CoV also holds a 1-1/2 day Volunteer Leadership Retreat in the fall.
  • CoV distributes scholarships annually to deserving students in the health care field.

IHA - AVR - Administrators of Volunteer Resources

  • AVR is an affiliate society (a personal membership group) of the Illinois Hospital Association.
  • AVR is a statewide group whose purpose is to provide educational and networking opportunities.
  • AVR is an affiliate group of the American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services
  • AVR sponsors educational opportunities at the state level as well as in each of its three districts.
  • AVR publishes a quarterly newsletter called "Inside AVR."
  • Membership is available to anyone responsible for the management and direction of a volunteer program in a health care institution or organization or any person with a continuing interest in the management and direction of a volunteer program.
  • Dues are $75 per year for the first person from an institution/organization; $50 each additional person; $25 courtesy member (retired DVS).
  • This group was formed in 1999 as a collaborative effort between Chicago Directors of Healthcare Volunteer Directors (CDHV) and Illinois Society for Directors of Volunteer Services (ISDVS).

AHA - American Hospital Association

  • AHA is a national organization for hospitals and represents health care institutions in Washington, D.C., for the purpose of lobbying for legislation.
  • Periodic educational events are offered throughout the country for auxilians and volunteers.

ASDVS - American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services

  • ASDVS is a personal membership group of AHA.
  • ASDVS holds an annual educational conference in the fall in different parts of the United States.
  • ASDVS sponsors an advanced institute immediately following the annual conference.
  • ASDVS sponsors a basic institute for new directors.
  • ASDVS sponsors an Awards Program for Professional Achievement (PPA) and Fellow Level of the PPA to recognize members whose actions of professional excellence have helped their institutions achieve success.
  • ASDVS has developed many resource papers.
  • ASDVS publishes a bimonthly newsletter called "Volunteer Services Administration."
  • Dues are $125 annually.

AVA - Association of Volunteer Administration

  • AVA is an international, multi-discipline membership organization of professionals in the field of volunteerism and volunteer administration.
  • AVA's mission is to shape the future of volunteerism locally and nationally by promoting and strengthening the profession of volunteer management.
  • AVA sponsors the only professional certification program in the field of volunteer management called Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA). Certification is awarded to applicants who meet AVR professional standards and certification criteria, and is offered out of the University of Colorado in Boulder.
  • AVA publishes a newsletter entitled "AVA Member Briefing" and a quarterly journal entitled "The Journal of Volunteer Administration."

ICOVA - Illinois Conference on Volunteer Administration

  • Annually holds a collaborative conference sponsored by various Illinois volunteer organizations.
