Post Acute Care Constituency SectionAs hospitals have devoted more resources to the continuum of care, they have diversified their services to include home care, long term care, and rehabilitation. In turn, IHA has diversified its membership services to facilitate hospitals' ability to deliver high value care that is consistent with community needs. Often, these diversified health services involve health care finance and regulatory issues that are separate and distinct from those affecting acute care services. Specialized education programs and resource materials are often required. To fulfill these demands in a time of limited resources and undiminished demands from core hospital services, in 1988, the IHA Board of Trustees approved a structure for formal, separately funded constituency sections. The first such section was established for rehabilitation services that same year. In 1993, the sections were integrated into the IHA core membership services and IHA hospitals providing the identified service automatically are members of respective sections as part of their IHA dues. In 2000, a new section, Post Acute Care, was created to focus on issues in the areas of home care, rehabilitation, and long term care. This action allowed for the blending of three separate sections into one to better position IHA in the Post Acute arena. While there is now one Post Acute Care Constituency Section, there are three separate Interest Groups for Home Care, Long-Term Care, and Rehabilitation, so that communications can be targeted.
