June 16, 2008 Mid-Year Communication Package
We are happy to report that through your generosity, we were able to again award 35 $1,000 scholarships to qualified individuals. Over 245 students applied for financial aid. We thank all of you who supported the CoV Scholarship Fund and ask for your continued support. To date we have been able to award over three quarters of a million dollars to worthy Illinois residents pursuing a health related career. In April, we began our first of three workshops providing educational opportunities throughout the state. The April event was held at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon and featured Laura Cornille-Cannady. The May program was held at the Interstate Center in Bloomington with Dee Lause. Both facilities worked out very well and we want to extend special thanks to our friends at SBLHC for their hospitality. The programs were successful and well attended. You will note by the enclosed brochure that one workshop still remains - July 15, 2008 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. Please register to attend this worthwhile program. Laurie Guest is an exceptional speaker who will dazzle you with her "Show Business Guide to Customer Service." Plan to join us and bring your fellow colleagues. Final plans are underway for the Volunteer Leadership Retreat on September 24-25, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. You will have an opportunity to hear nationally recognized speakers on issues of great interest. You will also have an opportunity to interact with vendors, as well as participate in the silent auctions and special raffles to benefit the CoV Scholarship Fund. Please remember, this event is the only forum in which we ask your support of donating an item for the silent auctions. We have also reserved 15 tickets to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for those that are interested in taking advantage of a tour. Tickets are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This year, again, proved to be a difficult legislative session for Illinois hospitals. IHA was busy as your advocate at both the state and federal level and appreciates the outstanding support of its volunteer constituents. Your engagement, whether through your generous donations to the IHA PAC, or your advocacy efforts on behalf of your hospital, was important to the success of IHA’s overall advocacy efforts. Enclosed is a listing of the 2007 Health Care Advocacy Award recipients, as well as the 2008 HCA Award application. Please submit the completed form by January. (Health Care Advocacy chairs will receive the Legislative Report later this summer.) It will also be available through IHA’s web site. In an effort to maintain updated information in our member database, we have enclosed a form for you to complete and return to us. Please remember to give the month and year your term expires and forward the new information to us once that has occurred. Only one person from each hospital should complete and submit a form. We need your support of all our scheduled events in order to be able to provide you with quality education programs and quality speakers. Thank you for your continued support of CoV and we look forward to seeing you at the remaining 2008 events. Enclosures: | |||||||||||||||||||
