Adventist Hinsdale Hospital The cooperative effort unites two organizations with similar holistic approaches to rehabilitation patient care for a variety of conditions in multiple settings. Wheaton-based Marianjoy will manage Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Adventist Paulson Rehabilitation Unit, a 21-bed transitional care unit for patients who require intensive therapy.
Advocate Health Care As part of "Project Medical Education (PME)," an innovative and national initiative designed to give policymakers and other community leaders a first-hand look at what life is really like inside major teaching hospitals, Advocate is offering congressional staffers from Washington, D.C. and Illinois a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity to "scrub in" as a medical resident for a day. Hospital Edward Hospital is the only Illinois hospital and one of only 33 hospitals in the country to earn Triple Gold Recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's "Get With The Guidelines" program for treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke. Triple Gold Recognition means Edward has demonstrated over 24 consecutive months, 85 percent compliance with nationally accepted standards of care for coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke patients.
Kewanee Hospital Kewanee Hospital has been recognized as being a member of the national Honor Roll for Patient Safety by the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC). The IAC instituted its Honor Roll for Patient Safety to recognize forward-looking hospitals that have taken a stand for patient safety by strengthening mandatory influenza vaccination policies for health care workers. Hospital Chicago banker Steve Koch begins cycling across America the week of Sept. 6 to raise money for Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is chairman of the board. His 23-year-old son, Jacob Koch, will ride with him on the nearly two-month journey, while his nephew, Joe Liebman, will tail the duo in a rented RV. Northwest
Community Hospital Bruce Crowther, president and CEO of Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, is authoring a new monthly column in the Chicago Tribune's TribLocal. TribLocal is a hyperlocal online news site for Chicago-area suburbanites that also features a weekly print edition as part of the Tribune's main sheet. Crowther's "Inside Healthcare" column will be posted at www.triblocal.com on the first Wednesday of every month and appear in the paper's print edition on the second Thursday of each month. Crowther's first column looks at why many hospitals are struggling financially, especially when hospital visits are so expensive in the first place. OSF
St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington After 24 consecutive months of achieving at least 85 percent compliance to The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines® program, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center was upgraded from Silver status to Gold Plus, the highest possible rating. OSF St. Joseph received the "Plus" certification as a special recognition for achieving 75 percent compliance in at least five quality measures within the Get With The Guidelines Stroke program. Shoe Drive Exceeds Goal by Collecting More Than 3,200 Pairs OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and Podiatrist Todd Snoeyink, DPM, collected more than 3,200 pairs of shoes for local homeless shelter Home Sweet Home Ministries. Clients living at the Home Sweet Home shelter will receive first choice of three pairs of shoes each. St.
John's Hospital, Springfield St. John's Hospital has received a $255,000 federal grant to support expansion of Telehomecare Monitoring for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) living in rural areas of central and southern Illinois. Because the telemonitoring program has had a waiting list, Prairie Heart Institute applied for a federal grant in an effort to provide more scales for CHF patients. The grant will allow the program to expand from 38 scales to 194, providing up to 930 CHF patients with access to the technology each year.
