Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital
Hospital Reaches Another Milestone with First AAA Procedure

A team of specialists at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital recently completed the hospital's first abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair on a local patient who is part of a national clinical trial. The hospital is one of about 70 in the United States taking part in the PIVOTAL study, a clinical trial based at Cleveland Clinic. Ruptured AAAs are currently the 10th leading cause of death among U.S. men over age 55.

Memorial Hospital, Belleville
Memorial Joins National Nursing Initiative

Memorial Hospital has joined NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health-System Elders), a national program to improve care for older hospitalized adults. More than 52 percent of Memorial Hospital's patients are over the age of 65. Through this program, Memorial will undertake a number of steps to recognize and prevent or treat health problems. Memorial is one of just 13 health care organizations in Illinois participating in the NICHE program. NICHE aims to improve care of older people by improving approaches to some core geriatric issues, such as falls, restraint use, incontinence, pain, skin breakdown and wounds, use of advance directives and family involvement in decision-making.

Saint Francis Hospital, Evanston
American Diabetes Association Honors Saint Francis Hospital's Diabetes Education Program

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has awarded Saint Francis with a prestigious Education Recognition certificate through 2011. The ADA's Education Recognition designation is a rigorous program that hospitals or other Diabetes Centers may participate in voluntarily to ensure that their diabetes educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.

Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora
Rush-Copley First in Nation to Earn Certification for Childbirth and Infant Programs

Rush-Copley Medical Center is the first hospital in the country to receive National Quality Approval by the Joint Commission for two programs -- Maternal/Child and High-Risk Neonatal Care. This recognition means patients with high-risk pregnancies or medically fragile babies can rely on receiving the highest level of care.

Rush-Copley Receives $150K Grant from Avon Foundation

Rush-Copley Foundation received a grant award notice from the Avon Foundation for $150,000 to support its RC-BEAT (Breast Education and Awareness Training) Program. This program is designed to provide community-based outreach and education to expand the patient navigation program to reach low-income Hispanic women in diverse community settings in Aurora, IL. As a result of the funding support, Rush-Copley will hire a dedicated bilingual Breast Health Outreach Coordinator and develop a culturally sensitive education program.
