IPC Welcomes a New Contracting Expert to its StaffMary A. Byrne joined the Illinois Purchasing Collaborative (IPC) in December 2007 as director, contract operations. Byrne will be responsible for developing regional healthcare contracts for IPC member hospitals. The addition of this new contracting position is a result of the growth and success experienced by the IPC in 2007. Byrne comes to IPC from Walsh Consulting Group, Northfield, IL, where she provided consultative expertise to healthcare organizations for medical equipment planning, specification development, and budgeting. She also worked at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago, for 14 years. Her last position there was as senior director, materials management where she developed and negotiated innovative contracts that standardized supplies, vendors, and equipment while supporting process improvement initiatives. In her contracting role, Byrne will work closely with IPC members to identify and implement contracting initiatives in order to drive down supply chain costs. Contracting initiatives for the IPC are driven by a regional advisory council which is comprised of supply chain executives from each IPC member hospital/system.
